The Premier League 2017-18

The Premier League 2017-18

It’s an exciting weekend for football fans as the much anticipated Premier League is back. The 25th Season of the Premier League took off last night with Arsenal’s 4-3 victory over Leicester City. Despite Jamie Vardy’s brace, the Gunner’s were able to steal the show with their new signing Alexander Lacazette scoring a goal in his Premier League debut.

Many other new signings are likely to make an appearance this weekend. With Watford hosting Liverpool for the first game this evening, all eyes will be on Mohammed Salah who made his move to the Merseyside this season from AS Roma. After a failed spell at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League will be kind to him for the second time.

Chelsea having spent big money on Alvaro Morata and Tiemoué Bakayoko are looking to defend their title while their striker Diego Costa’s future is still in doubt. Manchester City, another big-money spenders in the league too have splashed their wealth by fortifying their defence with the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, Danilo, for Goalkeeper Ederson they spend record transfer fee and also acquired the services of playmaker Bernardo Silva. Pep Guardiola will definitely be eying for the trophy especially after a trophyless season in the 2016-17 campaign.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney returns to Everton after years of success at Manchester United. With the departure of Romelu Lukaku, Ronald Koeman looks to bolster his squad with the likes of Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, and Jordan Pickford which will likely make them a top four contender this season. Manchester United have made only made a few but crucial signings such as Nemanja Matic, Victor Lindelöf and Romelu Lukaku. While Arsenal acquired their long term target man Alexander Lacazette on clubs record transfer fee and Sead Kolasinac on free transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur, last seasons runner ups have made no new signings as the current boss Mauricio Pochettinho has said that he will emphasise more on the youth and is confident that the current squad will bring them the much-required success in their campaign. On the other hand, West Ham United was surprisingly the most highlighted club in the transfer window after having acquired Marko Arunatovic, Javier Hernandez, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta making Slaven Bilic and his men, the Dark Horses of the League this season.

As we anticipate the first week of Premier League football, fans, pundits and experts begin to intrigue and draw plot lines. Will Chelsea retain the title, will it return to one of the Manchester clubs, or will it fall in the hands of Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs. Only the time will tell till then sit back and enjoy the beautiful game.
