The news comes after the sudden sacking of Pahlaj Nihlani from the board. There were still some months left to his tenure. This decision is being widely celebrated in the film industry. Many celebrities have hailed the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for this decision. He was made the chairperson in January 2015. The tenure of Mr. Nihlani was full of criticism. He has always had the tussle with the film makers on the issue of scene cuts and certificate distributions. He recently objected the use of word intercourse in the movie Harry met Sejal. He was also criticised for beeping words like cow and Hindu India in the documentary in Amartya Sen. Most famous scuffle was the 82 cuts in Udta Punjab. The matter went to court and even the court told the censor board “not to kill creativity”. The main reason of his removal was his autocratic conduct and moral policing of films.
Lipstick under my burkha, Indu Sarkar and Babumoshai Bandookbaaz were the recent film which were facing problems.
