It has been more than a decade that Indian film has not been nominated for Oscar awards, then the Academy Awards. Till now Mother India(1957) , Salaam Bombay(1988) and Lagaan(2001) have been nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

At Berlin International Film Festival Newton had won the Arts Cinema Award and the best film in Hong Kong Film Festival. Moreover the famous actor Mr.Amitabh Bachchan was one of the first to appreciate the film.
