Ranji Trophy Final
Gujarat 328 (Parthiv 90, Juneja 77, Thakur 4-84) and 313 for 5 (Parthiv 143, Juneja 54) beat Mumbai 228 (Shaw 71, Suryakumar 57) and 411 (Nayar 91, Iyer 82, Tare 69, Gaja 6-121) by five wickets
With this win, Gujarat becomes only the fourth team to be crowned domestic champions in all three formats. The other three teams are UP, TN and Bengal.
It capped a memorable season for Parthiv’s team, one that began in the first week of October with a hard-earned three points in a draw with Baroda in Jaipur and featured victories over Railways, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and now the defending champions. Parthiv has become the first Gujarat captain to lift the coveted trophy, and this win against the odds bore his stamp: a first-innings 90 to help his team take the lead, seven dismissals and a sparkling hundred to complete the win.
Parthiv Patel –
“It is a fantastic feeling. Winning Ranji Trophy for Gujarat was always a dream and scoring a hundred in the final is unbelievable. Very happy the way we played. I don’t know about that (when asked if there will be a statue of his in Ahmedabad). I’m blessed to have a good and young team. Happy to end up on a winning note. It was a collective dream that we saw before the season. It was a dream which started in Gujarat. I was taking my chances, I am glad it all came off. You can’t get 311 alone and Manpreet played brilliantly. Priyank Panchal got a crucial 30 yesterday to give us the moment. RP always looked like picking wickets. He has put in the hard yards with the boys. I am very fortunate a talented bunch of young boys. The support staff has been working very hard for us. The Gujarat Crciket Association has also backed us, I would want to take this opportunity to thank them.”
