Educate. Don’t robotize.
Suicides and depressions are becoming very much prevalent among the students these days. Be it a secondary school student or a student pursuing some technical courses. Moreover education these days is becoming a matter of business for most of the people especially people running educational institutions. People pay less heed to the student, whereas money making has become the major objective. Not only students are suffering but parents are also suffering these days because of high fee hikes at educational institutions that lead to more depression of the students.
Recently a protest march was organised at the city of Gurugram by parents enraged by unjustified fee hike and illegal charges brought in by school managements. The march was organised by all India parents forum for education that witnessed heavy presence of police officials. Though the issue was highlighted recently only in Gurugram but this is not just an issue of this particular area, rather the entire country is suffering from such problems, among which few comes into limelight and many remains hidden. The major concern over this issue is that now people are not focusing of making future, rather making money is the sole purpose. It is high time and people do need to realize that such issue not only hamper the growth of a child but of entire nation. India is a country where maximum of the population belongs to the average financial strata and it is not possible for every parent to afford highly expensive education for their children. But does that mean, major part of population will not avail good education for a brighter future.
Such issues are not merely creating financial burden over families but is causing major depression to the children as well, who are pressurized to excel no matter whatever the situation be. According to reports a large number of students die in India committing suicide, claiming educational pressure being the whole and sole reason of such disastrous steps. A report claimed that in India, every year, more than 14,000 students commit suicide. According of world health organisation 70% of such students are in stress and depression. Family pressure that demands from their children to study and only study is a major reason for stress and depression. There are also students who want to study but are not that capable enough are unable to cope up with their studies that lead to depression. There might be a number of reasons to count upon when we talk about student’s suicide.
This has become a serious matter of concern and government needs to take some major steps to save the future of their country. Providing proper counselling to such students or opening a counselling center for students who are in need can be a good and probable solution to such problems. Further the government should keep a check of educational fees so that a reasonable fee amount prevails around the country making education available for all. India needs more of the younger generation for its developments and hence the students and youth need to be preserved and nurtured in a proper manner.
